Fate vs Destiny

March 3 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Gabriela Lena Frank, Composer

The WSO Presents: FATE vs. DESTINY

Mozart: Overture to Die Zauberflöte (Magic Flute), K. 620

Gabriela Lena Frank: Peregrinos

Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36

Join us for our first concert in 2024 as we explore the theme of Fate vs. Destiny. Gabriela Lena Frank is one of the most significant composers of our time. Her work often draws on her multicultural background, including her mother’s Peruvian heritage. Frank has said, “I think the music can be seen as a by-product of my always trying to figure out how Latina I am and how gringa I am.” Peregrinos was commissioned and performed by the Indianapolis Symphony in 2009 and is inspired by the stories of strength and courage of the Latino community there, many of whom were undocumented workers. We further explore the differences between fate and destiny in Mozart’s well-loved opera overture, and Tchaikovsky’s fate motive, heard throughout his 4th Symphony. This concert is sure to be a rollercoaster ride of emotions – don’t miss it!

Free, no ticket required.
Donations gratefully accepted.
